Are you planning to visit Ireland’s capitol? If so, here are 5 places you must add to your travel itinerary.

Trinity College Library

Trinity College Library is home to thousands of books for you to look at. It’s also home to the Book of Kells, one of the most famous medieval manuscripts of the Bible. Before you enter the actual library, you’re able to walk through a very short museum that takes you through the process of making a medieval manuscript.

Grafton Street

Grafton Street is well known for it shopping. While you shop, whether it be for shoes, wool sweaters, or books, you can listen to the street performers singing hits both old and new.

Temple Bar

Temple Bar is an absolute must-do! Even if you can’t get inside to grab a pint, it’s a beautiful backdrop for some Instagram pictures. And, around the area, you can find countless more pubs with live Irish music every evening.

St. Stephen’s Green

Right past Grafton Street is a large, beautiful park known as St. Stephen’s Green. On Easter Monday in 1916, the Irish Citizen Army attempted to overthrow the British Government. They took control of many strategic areas in Dublin, including St. Stephen’s Green. You can read about Easter Monday and what happened in the park on that fateful day while you walk around enjoying the lush trees and large ponds.

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham Gaol is a prison located in Dublin and is an early example of a panopticon. After the Easter Rising in 1916, the Irish leaders of the attempted rebellion were thrown into this prison. You can visit their cells and even stand in their execution spots. Kilmainham Gaol offers an excellent tour that walks you through the history of the prison all the way from its Easter Rising prisoners to its overcrowding during the Great Famine.

Have fun exploring the wonderful (often rainy) Dublin!
