Edinburgh has coffee shops and cafes on every corner. Their busy atmospheres and eclectic vibes have inspired many–J. K Rowling wrote Harry Potter in an Edinburgh cafe! Here are 3 cafes that provide a good space to chill, work, hang out with friends, or maybe even write the next great fantasy novel…

Black Medicine Coffee Co.
Black Medicine has an expansive menu and lots of yummy treats. From vegan to gluten free, there’s a pastry for everyone. Located in Edinburgh’s Old Town, this coffee shop has both a cozy and busy atmosphere. If you sit upstairs, you can watch people come and go and listen to the sound of coffee being made. Downstairs, there is plenty of space to chill, work, or meet up with friends. With its rustic decor, this has to be one of the coolest, most unique coffee shops in Edinburgh.

Union Brew Lab
Union Brew Lab is great for a coffee and also for lunch. The menu, although small, has something for everyone, from vegan doughnuts to salami sandwiches. Plus the portion sizes are rather large. The specialty coffee is spectacular, but their menu also includes tea, beer, and more. In this more modern space, you can sit and read in a comfy chair or sit a table while you catch up with friends.

Press Coffee
Located near the University of Edinburgh, Press Coffee is the perfect place to pop in for a morning coffee. With a friendly staff and the sunlight streaming in, you can snag a table in the window and study before classes. They have a great breakfast menu and amazing scones. You should try their iced chai tea lattes!

Hopefully this list helps you on your quest to find Edinburgh’s most epic mug of espresso!
